About the Wolf

Like most people reading this, I was born on planet Earth. Some people probably think that’s a sufficient description of everyone, but I happen to think it’s a little vague, unless you don’t happen to come from Earth.

In any case, I was born in 1989 and for most of the early years of my life lived in Pennsylvania and upstate New York until I finally came to settle in North Carolina in 1997. Since then, I’ve become passionately fond of reading and writing, become closer to my Jewish heritage and faith, come out as an openly gay man, and decided I want to be a math teacher, a famous writer, and a rabbi or the president when I grow up.

I graduated from homeschool in 2008 and after a summer spent in Israel, I’m now immersed in college studying mathematics and a teacher at my synagogue’s religious school. In my free time, if there is such a thing anymore, I like to read novels, write fiction, knit things, play video games, watch TV, and sleep to dream, a fond allusion, if you know what I mean.

More specifically, the Writingwolf is a gay Jewish storyteller. He attends Guilford Technical Community College, where he’s served two years as the president of their Gay-Straight Alliance and a year as a Student Ambassador, is an honor student in their chapter of Phi Theta Kappa where he spent a year as secretary, and will be the Student Government Association president for the 2011-2012 academic year.

He is also a 2010-2011 graduate of the Student Leadership Institute (now the Student Leadership Development Program) and was a participant at the Institute of Southern Jewish Life Education Conference in 2011. He began teaching at his synagogue as a teacher’s aid (madrich in Hebrew) in 2005, became a teacher-in-training in 2008, and finally graduated to full teacher in 2009.

In other circles, The Writingwolf is known by his given name, Darren Lipman, and would like to respectively inform people that he is very selective of his friends on Facebook, although he will always happily welcome comments and questions here on his blog.

For more information, if you can’t already guess what to do, just ask.

If you post your question on the Suggest Content page, he might even make a whole post of a reply!

  1. Hey,
I randomly hit your blog becaues i searched nanowrimo.
So we have two things in common; both Jewish, both homeschooled. Actually, make that three, because I also love to write.
Btw, you didn’t mention, are you Conservative?

    • Hey there!

Thanks for stopping by–and thank you for your lovely comments, I appreciate them so much!

It’s really cool that we have so much in common. I think I just noticed one more, though: We both won NaNo! Congratulations, Unravel, great job!

And, yes, I am Conservative. Was it especially obvious? I’m curious, lol.

      Darren

  2. Hey Darren,
That was a really long wait, but I wasn’t able to go on blogs for a while. Thanks for the congrats, feels like NaNo was years ago….
